Sandy Rios is a dynamic and compelling voice for the pro-family
movement in America. Whether on radio or television, Sandy has
effectively debated the issues of the day, making the case for
morality in public policy for audiences across the nation.
She is host of the "Sandy Rios Show", heard weekdays from 3 to 5PM on WYLL AM1160 in Chicago. Sandy also serves as President of Culture Campaign, an exciting new non-profit dedicated to awakening a sleeping army of concerned citizens never before involved in public policy. Through strategic use of the internet, personal relationships, and production of a high level educational CD series called “Culture Shock,” plus the development of an adult curriculum called, “God, Sex and the Culture War,” Culture Campaign hopes to develop thousands of new activists. In addition, Sandy writes a weekly column featured on the Culture Campaign web-site.
In September of 2005, Sandy joined the Fox News Channel as a Fox
News Contributor. She appears weekly as an on air personality to
bring the conservative perspective to the news of the day.
From 2001 to 2004 Sandy Rios served as President of Concerned
Women for America, the nation’s largest public policy
women’s organization with 500,000 members. In her role at CWA,
Sandy became a respected voice on Capitol Hill and at the White
House, as well as a strong leader in the pro-family movement.
During her time in Washington, she was on the front lines in the
homosexual marriage debate. Speaking in Boston Common with
Archbishop Patrick O’Malley and at Fenuiel Hall with Ambassador
Alan Keyes, she made every effort to support the opposition to
homosexual marriage in Massachusetts. She interceded on Capitol
Hill and in media for strong judicial nominees, exposing the
Senate filibuster and smears against otherwise honorable
candidates. She worked hard to overturn approval of RU-486, the
French Abortion Pill approved by the FDA, and to refute the lies
that would deny the abortion-breast cancer link. She fought hard
on behalf of the right of free religious _expression, speaking
in Alabama and on the steps of the U.S. Supreme Court on behalf
of Justice Roy Moore and the Ten Commandments Monument. She also
debated Barry Lynn and Michael Newdow on the right to
acknowledge God in the Pledge of Allegiance. Sandy played a
central role in making sure that the massive African Aids Bill,
signed by President Bush, included provisions for the so-called
“Uganda Model,” which teaches abstinence and the importance of
marital fidelity.
Radio Talk-Show Host
Sandy served as host of CWA’s nationally syndicated radio
program, Concerned Women Today (CWT), heard in almost
every major market from New York to Los Angeles to Toronto. CWT
was a cutting edge news and education program on which Sandy
covered Capitol Hill, the White House, the Supreme Court,
Justice and State Departments, providing listeners with the
latest news and information in Washington from a Christian
perspective. She has educated, informed and motivated millions
across the United States and parts of Canada to lobby their
elected officials and hold them accountable to the people they
serve.
Prior to CWA, Sandy had eight years of experience as host of her
own award-winning WYLL drive-time radio news and talk show in
Chicago, the nation’s third-largest media market.
Media Spokesperson
Sandy has earned a reputation as an articulate and cogent
spokesperson for the pro-family movement and the Christian
worldview. She has appeared regularly on major broadcast media,
including ABC, NBC, CBS, CNN and FOX News Channel, and is
frequently quoted in key print media, such as The New York
Times, The Washington Post, Los Angeles Times, Chicago Tribune,
Wall Street Journal, the Associated Press, and many
Christian publications. She has been featured in Newsweek,
Time Magazine, US News and World Report, and has appeared as
a guest and co-host on CNN’s Crossfire.
North Korea Freedom Coalition
A stunning success for the coalition was the 2004 signing by
President Bush of the North Korea Human Rights Act. Sandy
served as chairman of the coalition, made up of Korean and
American individuals and organizations that are advocating human
rights for the brutally oppressed citizens of North Korea. This
interest grew out of her visit to North Korea as an official
guest of the state in 2001 and her meetings with persecuted
North Korean Christians in Northern Manchuria. She was in North
Korea on the day of the attack on the World Trade Center and the
Pentagon.
Travel
Sandy’s travels have taken her to nearly every Communist country
on the globe. During the days of Checkpoint Charlie, at the
height of the cold war, she resided in Berlin, Germany. Before
the breakup of the Soviet Union, she hosted the first radio
program ever broadcast live from Radio Moscow by Americans (with
the help of the KGB), during Boris Yeltsin’s campaign for
president. She has seen firsthand the persecution of Christians
by Hindu extremists in India, China’s brutal one-child policy,
abuses of religious liberty in Vietnam and China and the plight
of Burmese refugees in Thailand. These experiences have given
Sandy a passion for religious liberty abroad, as well as here in
the United States.
Awards
Sandy is the recipient of the 2005 Henry Hyde Leadership Award,
Pro-Life Action League’s “Protector Award” in 1999; Eagle
Forum’s Excellence Award and was declared “Conservative of the
Year” by Family PAC also in 1999.
As a radio host, she won the prestigious Angel Award for best
interview. Her Chicago show won the TESLA Award for best large
market promo and seven Silver Microphone Awards for production
and content.
Family
Sandy is the mother of two children, one of whom is severely
disabled. Sandy raised her daughter Sasha at home for twenty
years until it became necessary to place her in full-time care.
This experience has given Sandy unique insight into the sanctity
of human life and the needs of the disabled. Her son Jeremy, a
graduate of Wheaton College, is married to the beautiful Liesel
and working on his Masters in Divinity at Regent College in
Vancouver, British Columbia. Sandy currently resides in suburban
Chicago.
