  Award-winning journalist Sandra Maas has spent the past two decades informing and entertaining San Diegans as a dynamic television news anchor and radio personality. Sandra co-anchors KUSI's top-rated evening newscast at 6, 6:30 and 10PM on Channel 9. Nationally recognized for her medical reporting, Sandra spent 11 years as a network medical correspondent for CBS News. Here in San Diego, Sandra is also known for her past work as a news anchor on KFMB-TV and FOX-TV and as a regularly featured personality and newscaster on radio stations KFMB-AM and STAR 100.7 FM radio.
Sandra’s anchoring and reporting of the news has earned her many Emmy
nominations, a Golden Mike Award, recognition from the San Diego Press Club,
and honors from the San Diego County Medical Society. She is a member of Phi
Kappa Phi and graduated cum laude from Chico State University with a Bachelor
of Arts degree in Communications.
Sandra started her
career early, working as a news director at her college campus radio station.
Her first professional stop was KRCR-TV in Redding, California, where she
anchored the evening newscasts during her senior year in college. Then it was
on to KSBY-TV in San Luis Obispo, where she served as the main anchor and the
station’s health reporter for five years before landing in San Diego.
Sandra is also
actively involved in the community and has served on several boards. She’s
worked hard to raise awareness and money for Rady Children’s Hospital , the
Salvation Army, The Make-A-Wish Foundation, The Polinsky Children’s Center, Words Alive, National Charity League and Teen
Volunteers in Action. Sandra has close ties with local schools and is currently
an active member of the Torrey Pines High School Foundation Board. She has also developed a strong bond with the
local business community. For the past 15
years she has been Mistress of Ceremonies for the Ernst & Young
Entrepreneur of the Year Awards, recognizing local companies for their
entrepreneurial spirit. |
