  He's the
recipient of numerous honors including the NFL Man of the Year, Comeback
Player of the Year, the Philadelphia Sportswriters Association Most
Courageous Athlete, the NFL Players Association Hero of the Year, the
NFL Justice Byron White Award and was selected to play in the Pro Bowl.
He's also a member of the Chargers football Hall of Fame and was
inducted into the San Diego Hall of Champions. Rolf Benirschke was the
place-kicker for the Chargers from 1977 to 1987, setting 16 team
records. He retired as the third most accurate kicker in NFL history.
During his second season in pro football, he was struck with ulcerative
colitis, an intestinal illness that nearly cost him his life. Rolf's
experiences have been dramatized in The New This Is Your Life and was
featured on programs including Good Morning America, The Today Show and
others. Rolf is the author of Alive & Kicking. His story is a powerful
account of survival and renewal.
