  She began her
career in the ground-breaking musical, "Hair", where she originated the
role of Dionne. During her 18 months in the show, she eventually
replaced Diane Keaton, becoming the first black actress to replace a
white actress in a lead role on Broadway. Melba Moore continued in
blockbuster performances on stage and television, including "The Melba
Moore/Clifton Davis Show" and the mini-series "Ellis Island". She also
has several R&B and pop hits to her credit including "This Is It", "You
Stepped Into My Life" and her Grammy nominated signature song, "Lean On
Me". Her 1990 recording of "Lift Every Voice and Sing" was instrumental
in getting the song entered into the Congressional Record as the
official African National Anthem. In recent years, she's triumphed again
in a variety of venues. Her newest album is her first-ever Gospel
recording, "I'm Still Here". In the midst of her success, Melba is
committed to her faith in God and now speaks on behalf of pro-life
organizations, including Priests For Life. She has also founded the
Melba Moore Foundation for Abused and Neglected Children.
