Whether singing one of her original songs or sharing her story, Mary James crosses generational lines to reach deep into hearts of all who seek reassurance that reconciliation and renewal are possible.
From the beginning, Mary’s life was far from ordinary. Born to a teenager who was unprepared to be a parent, she was given up for adoption. Sadly, her adoptive mother suffered from alcoholism and died of cancer when Mary was 13. These and other circumstances fostered insecurities and feelings of being unwanted, unaccepted and unloved. As a result, she gave up on herself and became a teenage runaway. She had no concept of what it meant to be loved unconditionally. But at 21, all that began to change when she was reunited with her biological parents.
Today, Mary has a new life, a new love and a new song in her heart. Through three recording projects and an active performance schedule, her songs of healing and truth have been heard around the world.
Mary is frequently called to share her powerful testimony and has had the privilege of providing special music or leading worship at numerous venues with speakers such as Dr. David Jeremiah, Miles McPherson, Dr. Tim LaHaye, E.V. Hill, Dr. Voddie Baucham, Nancy Stafford, Ken Davis, Kirk Cameron, Carol LeBeau, Bunnie Wilson and many more.
Among her latest accomplishments is 2006 and 2007 Top 5 Female Vocalist of the Year nominations through the Inspirational Country Music Awards, a 2007 No. 1 Christian Country radio single and an array of prestigious songwriting acknowledgements. In 2007, she appeared on the Inspirational Country Music Awards with artists Lee Greenwood, Emerson Drive, Tammy Cochran, Ritchie McDonald, the Bellamy Brothers, Brad Cotter and the “Queen of Clean” Chonda Pierce.
Along with her heart for worship and passion for songwriting, Mary combines modern pop and country rock genres to bring a fresh new sound to any event. She is typically accompanied by a full band or acoustic team of musicians including her husband Dan on acoustic guitar and daughter Jessica on background vocals. As her story unfolds, you will see that she and her family are a witness to the scripture, "Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has gone, the new has come!”
