LARSON LIBRARY

Welcome to the Larson "Reading Room"! Ah, so much to read, so little time... though reading while watching TV makes you feel much less guilty about watching television. Here are some of Mark's favorite books, featured on his radio show:

"What's So Great About Christianity?" by Dinesh D'Souza. Take THAT, Christopher Hitchens.

"The Prince of Darkness". Nobody knows Washington, DC like Robert Novak. This is a compelling account of inside politics and Novak's personal transformation.

"The Power Broker" by Robert Caro. The classic story of Robert Moses and the empire he created in New York City.

"Liberal Fascism", by Jonah Goldberg. This is the book the left hopes you'll ignore. Don't.

"In The Shadow of the Moon" and "Into That Silent Sea", by Francis French and Colin Burgess. Two of the finest accounts of the space race you'll ever read.

"Testimony" by Nicolas Sarkozy. The new French President likes America, so we're better know what makes him tick. No Carla Bruni tidbits in this volume, though.

"The Last Man on the Moon", by Eugene Cernan. He's the most recent recent visitor to the lunar surface, and this is one fine account of the Apollo program. More info: www.genecernan.com

"The Looming Tower" by Lawrence Wright. The subtitle reminds us that where we are today began with "Al-Qaeda and the Road to 9/11".

"Making War to Keep the Peace", by Ambassador Jeanne Kirkpatrick. One of the most amazing people I've ever met. This book, completed shortly before her death, raises plenty of eyebrows.

"Lion Eyes", By Claire Berlinski. It's a novel with plenty of current application, along with autobiographical truth.

"Land of Lincoln", by Andrew Ferguson. It's an often laugh-out-loud funny overview of where Americans see Lincoln history, political correctness and all.

"Our Dumb World: Atlas of Planet Earth", by the editors of The Onion. — I wonder how many people read this as 100% truth instead of satire. Sure, plenty of naughty language at times but it's a laugh-a-moment spoof of tedious textbooks and dumbed-down education. A modern classic.

"THE U.N. EXPOSED: How the United Nations Sabotages America's Security and Fails the World" - Fox News Channel's Eric Shawn gives us the inside look at this very dysfunctional world body. (He also appears often on the Larson radio show).

"MENACE IN EUROPE: Why the Continent's Crisis is America's, Too" by Claire Berlinski. She's one of our favorite experts on the subject, and always way ahead of the news.

"GUESTS OF THE AYATOLLAH: The First Battle in America's War with Militant Islam" by Mark Bowden. The author of "Blackhawk Down" recounts the 1979-1980 Iran hostage crisis and provides information crucial to understanding where we're going with Iran.

"MAO: The Unknown Story" by Jung Chang. Liberals need to read this book and discover how murderous Chairman Mao really was. One of the best biographies of Mao.

"GODLESS" by Ann Coulter. Do what most of Ann's critics haven't done: actually read the book!

"LEARNING TO EAT SOUP WITH A KNIFE" by John A. Nagl. This is the book about lessons in fighting insurgencies... the one General Abizaid is having his people read. If you read it, you'll be smarter than most network news anchors on the subject.

"COME BACK TO AFGHANISTAN" by Said Hyder Akbar. A California teenager returns to his homeland. Fascinating!

"WHITE GUILT: How Blacks and Whites Together Destroyed the Promise of the Civil Rights Era" by Shelby Steele. Must reading for left and right.

"SADDAM'S SECRETS: How an Iraqi General Defied and Survived Saddam Hussein" by Gen. Georges Sada. Saddam had the WMD's and Gen. Sada knows where they went. This is an amazing story of good vs. evil and spiritual power.

"Rebel in Chief: Inside the Bold and Controversial Presidency of George W. Bush" by Fred Barnes. Fred (co-star of THE BELTWAY BOYS on Fox News Channel) reveals what GWB is really all about behind-the-scenes. An unusual and fascinating portrait.

"My Year in Iraq" by Ambassador L. Paul Bremer. Whether you think he did a fine job or not, this is very interesting reading.

"Condi vs. Hillary:The Next Great Presidential Race". Dick Morris and Eileen McGann have detailed the very interesting possibilities. The terror starts on page one, with Hillary taking the presidential oath of office.

"The War on Christmas: How the How the Conspiracy to Suppress the Sacred Christian Holiday is Worse Than You Thought" Fox News Channel's John Gibson lays it all out here. The title's long, but so is the battle that is shaping up. The left won't rest until religion is put in a lockbox somewhere. The ACLU's going nuts.

"The Assassins" - Ollie North and Joe Musser have outdone themselves. A chilling novel that reads like today's headlines. Heaven forbid we go where this scenario goes. A real page-turner.

"A War Like No Other: How the Athenians and Spartans Fought the Peloponnesian War". Victor Davis Hansen makes this ancient story come alive in a way that sheds light and wisdom on today's conflicts. Fascinating.

"The Know It All: One Man's Humble Quest to Become the Smartest Person in the World". This very funny bestseller by A.J. Jacobs is now out in paperback. As our friend P.J. O'Rourke says, "It's a lot shorter than the encyclopedia, and funnier, and you'll remember more of it. Plus, if it falls off the sheld onto your head, you'll live".

"Hollywood Nation" - James Hirsen exposes the Left Coast lies, old media spin, and the new media revolution. Sure to NOT be a favorite of Barbara Streisand, Michael Moore et al.

"One Soldier's Story: A Memoir" Bob Dole shares the story he's waited sixty years to tell. Fascinating and moving.

"Hating America: The New World Sport" - Fox News Channel's John Gibson irritates the blame-America-bunch. Now in paperback!

"Home Invasion: Protecting Your Family in a Culture That's Gone Stark Raving Mad". Heritage Foundation's Rebecca Hagelin is right on the money with this one.

"One Nation Under Therapy: How the Helping Culture is Eroding
Self-Reliance" by Christina Hoff Sommers and Dr. Sally Satel.

"Leadership Is: How to Build Your Legacy" - Glen Aubrey (available online at www.leadershipis.com) Not just another management book. A living, breathing practical plan for success.

"When Trumpets Call: Theodore Roosevelt After the White House" by Patricia O'Toole. I'm a big TR fan, read plenty of books on the man. Fresh insights in this one.

"The Heat Is On: Health, Humor & Hope for Women Facing Menopause" by Danna Demetre. OK, I'm not a woman, but this book is "Mrs.Larson approved"... in fact, she bought extra copies for friends!

"Riding With Reagan: From the White House to the Ranch" by John Barletta. A fascinating new portrait of the President by our friend who served Reagan longer than any other Secret Service agent.

"Character: Profiles in Presidential Courage" - Chris Wallace.
Fox News Sunday's popular host features inspiring stories of key American leaders... a "must read"!

"Rumsfeld's War" - Rowan Scarborough (Right-on account by the Washington Times correspondent)

"Feminist Fantasies" - Phyliss Schlafly (There she goes again, ticking off the left and the NOW bunch!)

"Because He Could" - Dick Morris (Bill Clinton doesn't like this one!)

"Rewriting History" - Dick Morris (And Hillary hates this one!)

"War Stories I and II" - Oliver North (Powerful accounts of Operation Iraqi Freedom and World War II)

"In the Red Zone" - Steven Vincent (Alone in the most unsafe spots in Iraq... an unusual account)

"Up Up and Away" - Marilyn McCoo & Billy Davis, Jr. (Find out how they've lived in Hollywood and stayed married 35+ yrs)

"Khrushchev: The Man and His Era" - William Taubman (Excellent history of the shoe-slammer's leadership)

"How Ronald Reagan Changed My Life" - Peter Robinson (From the man who wrote Reagan's "Gorby, tear down this wall!" speech.)

"Gorbachev: On My Country and the World" - Mikhail Gorbachev (Hear the rest of the story in Larson's exclusive interview with Gorbachev -- see the Special Update section)

"Dresden: Tuesday February 13, 1945" - Frederick Taylor (No revisionist history here!)

"Coast of Dreams: California on the Edge 1990-2003" - Kevin Starr (OK, it's a little left-wing but fascinating)
